Great hatch for my boat Lowe 1436 Jon. I used #8 1" stainless steel sheet metal screws and silicone to attach this hatch to my boat. Perfect for storing vests, tools and other items.

I am returning this but not the seller's fault. It didn't quite fit (we needed a different base with buttonhole cutouts) but for the price compared to others of this size it was great.

Sturdy, easy to install, hardly leaks water. Closes tight and tight. I would buy again. I should add that they turn yellow with age. They are about two years old and no longer match the boat's very white gelcoat. I can live with it. The boat is 15 years old and still white and the manhole covers are very yellow. The boat is covered most of the time.

Fantastic product but the description is slightly different. The description says the hatch is 14.75 inches or 14 3/4 inches. however, it is slightly smaller. Actual size is 14 5/8 inches which is 1/8 small for the space I wanted to install it in. another part of my boat. As far as I can tell it is built with excellent quality materials, very strong and durable. I highly recommend it.

Bought two to replace my Bayliner's original tailgates which failed after 41 years. So we'll know about the durability rating in a few decades. They seem reasonably well made, sturdy and require no more work than a surface prep and a drop of silicone before bolting. They seal, which the originals never did, and the latch works well. An improvement over the old yellowed caps they replaced. Would recommend and am thinking of a larger hatch for the bow compartment. UPDATE: 21.04. UV discolouration

Kayaking is my business. I have paddled most of my life and have built many kayaks. This hatch is durable and adaptable. I put it on the back deck of my latest Heritage kayak - it took a bit of heat from the heat gun after I cut out the hole because the deck wasn't exactly flat - not much. I placed it open end against the back of my seat, attached a waterproof chain to the lid and base (drilled holes) to keep the lid from falling out of reach.
