High pitched whistle from PSU hurts

Was very pleased to see 180MB/s streamed from PC straight to this 10TB device after years of running at 35MB/s through my DNS 320 was stuck. However, after about a week I start hearing high pitched trills despite the terrible tinnitus I suffer from. Now that I live in an RV while the house is being renovated, this is unbearable unbearable. I reset everything to DNS-320 and only disabled it for use with offsite backups. This device will never come online until I replace that nasty power supply…

CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH!

This is hands down the loudest external drive I've ever owned. It's so loud man. You don't want this thing in the room with you when you're trying to watch TV or just talk. You can hardly sleep in the next room until the thing starts behaving. I had to place this beast on a soft cloth to try and absorb some of the noise. But otherwise it works perfectly. Transferred fast enough. No problem in this regard. But man, this thing is so crunch crunch crunch crunch crunch crunch crunch crunch crunch…

Not 14TB and writes slowly.

I've bought several Seagate external hard drives over the past few years and they all still work, but I needed a larger backup drive and decided it was time for 14TB. It is plug & play and like all other drives easily portable. However, as some other reviewers have noted, even with 3.0, the transfer speed is much slower than my other Seagate drives. One thing that really annoys me, and not only does Seagate do that, it seems to be the majority of computer memory. produced, but the maximum…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Speed of performance

Don't expect to have an IronWolf drive in there because only a small percentage of people are lucky enough to find it after throwing away that 10TB USB drive. I ordered 2 on March 16, 2021 and received 2 Barracuda Pro 7200rpm drives. Fur. At least they are CMR and not SMR right? The last Seagate 8TB SMR drive I got just 3 months ago already died where it clicks, but Windows doesn't "see" it anymore, so it doesn't show up in my list of drives anymore . All 8 TB of stored data will be lost. I've…

Seagate is silently changing the warranty for a real hard drive

For some reason Seagate decided to sell closed drivers at a lower price than an identical "naked" drive. For many years they have honored the guarantee that the enclosure and the actual drive remain in sync. In the US this is the correct method as removing the case does not void the warranty. However, after years of benevolence from PC and storage enthusiasts, Seagate has decided - for erroneous reasons - to retroactively revoke the internal drive warranty - even for drives that have already…
