Seagate ST500LM000 SSHD 500GB: Faster Storage with Solid State Hybrid Technology Review

I bought 2 of these used. Both went into my old Dell Inspiron and Acer Aspire. Aside from making one of them bigger, they load a lot faster and are a lot sharper than maybe the OEM HHDs that have been in them for 5+ years. It was worth it.

The name says SSHD but the rotation speed is shown and the pictures show the rotation device. Good price but don't buy it if you want to upgrade your computer. You need a real SSD. You will not get any PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT with this HD.

This was an exact replacement for my Lenovo laptop which required a THIN (7mm) hard drive instead of the standard 9mm. This worked great, and the Acronis imaging software, downloaded free from Seagate, allowed me to clone the old hard drive so I could skip the reinstall process.

Replaced my broken SSD drive with this drive and thought it would boot almost as fast. It was a disappointment, it wasn't any faster than a standard mechanical hard drive. Not worth the extra money.

I have bought several Segate SSHD drives, two for PC and one for laptop. They all worked perfectly. Windows boots faster and is quieter than any other drive I've ever owned. I can't compare them to the speed of a real SSD, but they're a lot cheaper. I will definitely buy again next time I need to replace a drive or assemble a new computer.

After installation seemed a little sluggish. It came in bubble wrap and sealed with anti-static material. Not what I would have expected from an advertised new product. I went to the comments section to find out that a lot of people are complaining that this isn't new. So my suspicion that it wasn't working properly was justified. Only took a month. I was making this screeching noise which I thought was normal until it got louder by the day and crashed in apps. He would probably have died in a week. The packaging was also torn. It was unsealed and had no warranty sticker. Either way, they returned it within 30 days. Received resealed. It even looks different from the front and is completely silent.

I bought this drive to replace another Seagate that was in my refurbished PC. He just died one day. Terrible. I bought this and quickly installed Windows 10 and so far so good. Easy to replace. What I didn't like was the packaging. There is no box. Just arrived in an envelope. I think this disc was also a repair. Time will tell if this drive will hold up.
