Ideal starter, good for starters and parts

I installed this on my 1986 Mercruiser 140 (181 CID, 4 cylinder) to replace a 26 year old with an outgoing Bendix. What a difference and a perfect match! The starter comes with a magnet as in the photo. Only $66 cheaper than West Marine.

The engine is big! Works fine though

This new block is much larger than the original it replaced and I've had a heck of a time to bolt it on. The motor diameter is almost twice that of the original. while it works fine. My Mercruiser 3.0 starts with no problems.

I installed the starter and it worked great for about $1000.

I fitted the starter and it worked about 10 times then the silanoid wouldn't turn on, now it clicks a couple of times before it works I would send it back but only to buy a new silanoid would cost more

For reference, both screws are under the starter that secures it to the engine. My engine is on a 1986 4Winns 16ft ski boat and has a 140hp engine. Haven't taken it to the lake yet, so verdict on how well it will work is unknown. My old one still worked, but 30 years have reached their limit. I keep the…

Not Marine Grade!: Replacement Parts

This starter has been used less than 2 years and has only been removed about 4 times with intermediate starts. The engine is completely rusted. It can't be a marine starter. I usually like Sierra parts but the starter is obviously a marine rebath but not a true marine starter. Yes, I know marine grade should do more without sparks in the engine bay, but it also needs to be sealed, and this engine is unsealed. If it worked, it worked well. But two years is not acceptable for a $200+ starter that
