Not impressed with this Sierra Dist cap

firstly the cap vent was not screwed in. I had to drive the thread with a tap. Then the bolts that came with the kit went in tighter than usual, while the old Mercruiser bolts went right in. The distributor cap itself is very tight and requires screws to attach. It had very sharp edges in the cap where it fits over the distributor body. I'm just not impressed with the fit of this product. If you can buy Mercury parts from the start.

Pros
  • delivery was very quick
Cons
  • old

NO OEM QUALITY! But not bad either.

So I bought an OEM set (Quicksilver) and a Sierra set and combined them. THERE IS NO DOUBT the quality of Quicksilver was BETTER! The OEM fit and finish was much better! Not that the Sierra was bad. But you can tell the attention to detail and quality was evident at Quicksilver. Just like the rotor. (?) to see how they both work and hold up. I wouldn't buy a Sierra, I could if I was on a very tight budget. but because of the small price difference. I will buy OEM 1st when available.

Pros
  • Beautifully packaged
Cons

Poor quality control

Although I have used Sierra parts in the past and have had good luck, this distributor cap did not fit my 1997 5.7LX Mercruiser and became tied to an ID number when attempting to tighten it. The inside diameter of the cap was slightly smaller; probably due to some manufacturing issues and I expect it to tear if I press harder. The cover also looks like a cheaper version of the OEM part. I would skip this one. I have requested a refund and am exchanging for an OEM version. I would say that in…

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Operating speed
