Silhouette keeps increasing the prices on these mats and they are of terrible quality. They barely last a month even with moderate use, and the glue on the carpet gets worse with every new batch you buy. I'm finally done. I've bought many Silhouette Portrait Mats, but this one was different. The grid was much smaller than the typical 1" and included inch markings along the border which for some reason didn't work well with my machines. Each time it took more than 3 attempts to register successfully. I hate this new design with passion. This new design is less sticky even when new, the stickiness doesn't last as long and it has a TERRIBLE strong smell that lingers for weeks. I still have one of the old styles and have used it again. I cleaned and removed it, applied new sticky glue and it works great. I'd like to buy old ones so I don't have to do this as often on mine. I have been using Silhouette Portrait Cutting Mats for a number of years now. The last rugs I bought didn't work well. The advertising detaches from the cutting mat and renders the cutting mat unusable - without glue, the cutting mat becomes unusable. Also, it's so sticky that trying to tear the paper off the card will tear the paper. I bought this because I lost my standard portrait mat (I don't know how). I VERY doubted it would be any different than normal, but it actually worked great! My first use of it was for decals and the backing only stuck in one place and I was able to gently remove it without completely messing up my project. With the original mat, the back of the sticker kept getting stuck and I had a huge mess. It was a very good alternative to him. The price on Silhouette America's website is currently $12.99.

I miss the old lightweight holding mats :( I mostly cut pieces of fabric by attaching the iron to the glue. It used to cut beautifully with the old mats which were more opaque and stickier" They hardly stick to the fabric.
