I used the smaller one and it worked great. Today, after the return line was closed, I happened to need a large one, and it doesn't even cut the thread. When I look at it under a magnifying glass, I see that it's not sharp at all. So if you're looking for something that cuts the thread don't let the usually great product brand fool you. It's garbage.

I can't use this thin flat seam ripper. These are the first I've ever seen so thin and flat instead of big and round. I wanted to return them but Revane gave me the money back but said to keep them. I believe the postage will cost more than it's worth. Someone with younger hands might like them. Not me.

Looks great until you open the box. Despite other reviews, I trusted the name "singer". It was an unexpected misunderstanding when opening the package. The metal part has been made so ugly that there is no precision. It looked like a homemade tool to me. A piece of metal, badly cut, with no smooth surface, just nickel-plated or painted in some way. Love the ergonomic design. It's easier to hold than my old Singer ripper that I've had for over 30 years. A big flaw is the lid. With my old Ripper I could just close it at the other end. I'm sure, as others have reported, that eventually it will loosen up and get lost. Another issue is that it doesn't seem as strong (durable) as the old one, but what it is these days. I thought with a name like Singer it would be a product that would be good for seamstresses. But, the hat on the big one flies right away, there is nowhere to store it at the other end, so it has no protective cap, it falls off in the sewing kit, with the tip sticking out. Not great if you keep it in a plastic bag in your sewing machine as it can puncture. These rippers work well and are easy to hold but the overall design is really poorly thought out and futile because the caps don't fit the back end of the handle which would have been easy enough to fix They were designed by a team who has obviously never used a seam ripper before. Another small detail that is too easy to drop and lose.
