Description of π§ SJ35 Hinge Forstner Concealed Boring Bit
35mm Carbide Tip Forstner Drill Bit. Drill flat bottomed holes without splintering. Drill straight, angled and overlapping holes. Three spurs and center spur to give repeated, clean and accurate hole cutting. Drill precise flat bottom holes with no chipping in any thickness of soft wood.
I recently purchased a hinge bore tool from the Industrial and Scientific category and found it to be reliable and efficient. Thanks to my knowledge gained in practice, I was able to recognize the durability of this product; it did not show any signs of wear and tear even after several uses. The concealed boring feature is a great addition for a neat and tidy finish. However, I did find the pricing on the higher side but the quality makes it worth the investment.
Pros
Accurately drills clean, flat-bottomed holes with minimal tear-out.
Cons
Requires a specialized bit and specific drilling technique, making it less versatile than other boring methods.
I only had to fit hinges on 2 oak cupboard doors and this bit did the job perfectly. I used a 1/2" electric hand drill and used a practice hole in a piece of scrap scrap as a template to make sure the drill bit stayed in place. The depth gauge worked perfectly to control the depth of cut. The hinges fit perfectly!
The drill bit has very sharp cutting edges and the built in depth gauge is great but when trying to use the drill bit in a cordless drill the bit wanders a lot, like in slots. I have tried the drill in both softwood and hardwood with the same result when hand drilling. My standard 1-3/8" (35mm) Forstner bit doesn't have this problem. I bought it because the carbide teeth last longer, especially when drilling chipboard/melamine, but I will drill all the hinge holes on the bit. Machine with it .
