I had a previous generation Sony recorder that served me well for almost two years before I thought it would be a good idea to change it (mainly for cosmetic reasons) so this device is hardly suitable for everyday use . run as long as you can

I have to agree with other reviewers. My main complaint is the poor sound quality. In theory, this unit would be great. The digital format offers many advantages over cassettes. Indexing is a great feature that allows the user to find key passages easily. But the playback is noisy and the recording is weak. I thought it might be my feature but I swapped it out for another one and encountered the same problem. In addition, the constant display quickly drains the batteries.

I work for three magazines and use this recorder for professional work in demanding environments. Before buying the Sony ICD-B5 I did a lot of shopping and heard a lot of good things about this recorder (consumer reports etc.). Unfortunately, while the reviews were accurate in their positives, only people who just want the basics should consider purchasing this product.
