I bought the recorder in August 2006. I also bought some Verbatim CD-Rs with music/data from Sam. The recorder recognized the CD-R without any problems. These CDs can be used for both data and music. After being shocked by the negative reviews on this product I bought it anyway. I've never bought a Sony product that didn't come out of the box and thought I'd be out of luck if it was the first. I also thought that Sony had plenty of time to fix all the issues that were said to have arisen when the product was first launched. In fact, it works exactly as intended. Update: January 2007: I just have to comment on the Table of Contents and the hard drive error messages that many reviewers have mentioned. THEY WILL TEST THEM MANY TIMES. I've tried every brand of music CD-R over the years and no brand, not even Sony, is immune. Sometimes this happens with 2 or 3 discs in a row (after about an hour of recording and especially when creating mixed discs). This is VERY disappointing and I have to say that with today's PC recording capabilities it makes this unit…
