Bad Product: Collars, Harnesses & Leashes

This is not a very good product. I don't know enough to tell if this is the real Herm Sprenger or a fake but I'm so disappointed. There is no slippage at the collar, so you cannot correct it correctly. In fact, this is a flat collar with teeth. It literally makes no sense as it will choke your dog like a flat collar. It also felt a little flimsy and tangled in my dog's fur within 10 seconds of putting it on. Returned.

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Not bad but...

This is a genuine Herm collar, stamped, made in Germany but a far cry from the quality I thought it was 5 years ago bought another dog. Not sure if the weaker alloy is due to it being the 'black' version but presumably it's just powder coated so I'm afraid it's just the new normal for this brand. Too bad. The teeth bend so easily that a strong dog can deform them by simply pulling. Not recommended for a strong dog. The only plus is that the closure is comfortable.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes

  • No instructions

Game changer, even my dog loves it

It's definitely a game changer for me. I have a lifeguard pit/husky that couldn't pull me down despite a lot of movement. He started choking himself with a regular collar and that's when I decided to try the spike. He no longer pulls and walks much more comfortably, at the same time he seems to be gaining confidence and composure. He brings me a collar when he wants to go for a walk. I used to be against the spiked collar but we are both much happier now, he uses very small fixes that don't…

An invaluable helper in training large dogs.

When I put this collar on my dog, after adjusting the size and removing 3 links, I found that it stays in the traditional collar position (just behind the ears and just behind the jaw) without that the dog is uncomfortable. Dog or hinders its ability to breathe and have a full range of neck movements. Getting dressed was like magic. My 96 pound GSD puppy (yes, puppy) is a very excited young puppy who regularly pulls the leash and pulls me back and forth. With this leash, he stayed in a heel…

good for training a crazy, energetic Standard Labradoodle

I have this collar with 2.25mm teeth because it's the size shown in some Upstate Canine Academy YouTube training videos for the Training large dogs is recommended not to pull on the leash and helps with fear of noisy cars and pedestrians. I was worried it would get tangled in my Labradoodle's curly dog fur, but it turns out that's really not a problem. All I have to do is pull it slowly, skimming off any curls that might get caught on the prong. While it's easy enough to add and remove links…

Reliable and branded

As a fairly experienced trainer I always trust HS and it was real! I love that I can use the quick release type on my Rough Border Collie! It's the only thing that doesn't get tangled up in its show frock and makes for the surest fix. In fact, he sort of disappears around his neck, which means he's perfect for training all those judgmental and uneducated people who tell me I'm hounding him. As always, HS delivers well balanced pressure and their quick release system is great for emergencies. I…

Suitable for a very stubborn dog

I have long resisted the Spiked Collar, believing it to be barbaric. However, my dog trainer advised me differently and highly recommended the Herm Sprenger brand. I'm glad I bought this. My dog is a 3 year old Border Collie/Queensland Heeler mix and she is VERY RESILIENT. Although smart and obedient (when she feels like it), she is extremely stubborn and always pulls on the leash. I've tried many tricks in the book on how to stop her from pulling, but she just won't stop. After trying it on…

Worked wonders from the first use!

I was a little apprehensive about using this because my 82 lb lab mix pulls on the leash like crazy. We've tried everything: the martingale and the regular collar and harnesses and walking collars that turn your head when pulled. She always pulled like crazy. I received it today. It has an 18 inch neck, +/- a little, and I pulled 2 links. I could pull out 1 more if I wanted it to be super tight. In its current form it is dense and does not slip off the back. She usually waits until you tell her
