Must have for workshop

Great product. High quality. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. I highly recommend. Expensive, but pay more for better quality than save money and buy junk. I will own this for many years.

Super handy part in the garage.

This article is an excellent reference. However, you should install it about 1/2 inch from the wall. When screwing in reference bolts, make sure that these bolts are screwed in completely and smoothly.

Pros
  • The best in its niche
Cons
  • No

Nice well made product USA

Don't be fooled by the cheaper plastic version of this valuable tool. This is a beautifully finished, high quality product that will last forever with proper care. I don't know why I waited 70 years to get what I needed - no more endless guesswork in the workshop.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Negative impression

Quality product fits the clasp

I like how compact it is, well organized and well finished. I always have a problem with nuts and bolts that match the items I install. I end up going through my bolt/nut bins and seeing which one fits. On other occasions I've grabbed bolts/nuts from a local shop and then tried them out upon returning home only to find they didn't fit. I wasted too much time going back and forth. It helps me save time by being accurate the first time.

Pros
  • Convenient item
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

Portable, durable and convenient.

There are certain tools that after you buy them make you wonder how you went so long without them. This is one of those tools. It's not the good old days when it was easy to distinguish a metric from a brand-based standard, which sometimes made it difficult to identify the thread in question. This is my third thread checking tool and I wish I had bought it first. Portable, durable and convenient. It's an essential tool in my garage and forever.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Some problems

Stainless steel bolt and nut ID

The best investment I've made in a long time. After using cheaper and lower quality bolt IDs I decided to buy this beauty. It is made of premium materials and looks very professional. It's made of thick aluminum so I decided to epoxy (JB Weld) the strip of steel along the back, then I installed a long magnetic tool holder (Harbor Freight) where I needed the ID of the stainless steel bolt and nut. Looks great! My only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Great addition to my garage

Love having this nut and bolt guide, it takes the guesswork out. I installed it on the inside of a door in my nut and bolt closet, had to add some washers to place the panel 3/4" from the door so I could drive the bolt deeper than a few threads into the panel .This will ensure you have checked for correct size and thread.A few metric threads are very tight and if you can't get the screw past the thickness of the panel you could be wrong. The only downside is that I feel that you can easilyโ€ฆ

Key Tip for Success

Many metric and standard screws (and nuts) are very similar, and of course this tool is there for the sole purpose of figuring out which is which. But even the tool can get tricky: In the first photo you can see a metric M6 (6mm) screw threaded into a "1/4-28 FINE" hole, which is a standard (non-metric) size . It seems to fit pretty well, but the trick is that you have to thread it ALL through to make sure it actually fits. In the second photo you can see that the bolt goes *almost* through the
