In this case you get what you pay for

I tried all these cheap models and it turned out that they are made of the same mass. I have a Lenovo x220 and all the cheap ones I've tried won't connect to the card's internal wiring. It may work briefly and then lose contact. It seems to be hanging there. It still doesn't snap into place, so if you tug on the cable it can pull the card out. But it fits tighter and the connection is good. I definitely notice a speed difference. I use it for an astrological camera and it doesn't work with…

Meets my needs

Powered by Dell Precision M4600 with i7-2820QM processor, Windows 7 Pro. Getting the map to work was a bit of an adventure; I skipped the minidisk drivers as my laptop can't read these discs and went to the official website instead. My "fault" was that I didn't see the "warning" that you can't update the firmware if the device isn't working properly, so . I installed the driver and then updated the firmware. At this point, after restarting, the computer did not recognize any flash drives…

Finally the gadget purchase went as I wanted

I wanted to add USB 3.0 ports to an old Dell laptop. After failing with the cheapest adapter I could find, I decided to spend a few more dollars on a StarTech.com ExpressCard adapter. The StarTech block worked without any problems. I suspected that the USB wireless adapter's bottleneck was the USB 2.0 port it was plugged into. When connected via USB 2.0, I achieved a download speed of 175 Mbps. With the same adapter plugged into the StarTech adapter's USB 3.0 port, the download speed increased…

Finally! I've had this amazing Qosmio laptop since 2010. That's right. SEVEN LONG YEARS! And it's still going strong. This is an excellent laptop. The only thing is that it never had USB 3 ports. I don't know why I never thought of it before, but until recently it never occurred to me that I could get a PCMCIA USB 3 card! In fact, I completely forgot that this laptop has a PCMCIA slot! I mean how often do you even think about PCMCIA TODAY? The reason this has become an issue lately is because…

Don't expect too much

Dell Latitude E6400Silicon Power 512GB SSD 3D NAND A55 as OS HDDCrucial MX500 CT1000MX5003 SSD0 data stick, because the FAT.32 as test device has been my number one temporary data transfer device for the past 3 years. This laptop is 13 years old and can still handle a workload like the newer I5 and even some of the newest I7s that have proven to be bloated with viruses. All the old workhorse needed was some extra TLC and upgraded parts. Compared to existing USB 2.0 ports, I have a recently…

Fantastic and flawless

Worked great, just installed on my Linux Mint laptop and recognized it straight away, didn't even need to reboot. This is why Startech is better than others, it just works. I ran some performance tests right away, I know it's not the "real world" but there are some pointers to judge things. I'm very impressed with the Startech card as it's an ExpressCard/54, I knew it would be faster than USB 2.0 but I honestly didn't think it would work as well as it used to. HP Probook 6550b with Intel i5…

Design and performance issues

This is another update. The review relates to the 54mm card in the Dell Lattitude e6520. These models only have one USB 2 port and one eSATA port. I was looking for a high speed transfer option with multiple external drives. The first few hours I had nothing but problems. The transfer speed was slightly faster than USB 2 and the card was too easy to physically remove from the slot. After emailing tech support, I decided to re-run the firmware update posted on the site. Wow, after a reboot the…
