Great replacement for Windows 10

We had an old USB serial cable that my wife used to connect her court filing machine to her laptop. When we upgraded to Windows 10, it stopped working stably. After a long research we found that the chipset in the original cable is no longer supported. This new cable was easy to set up and works flawlessly.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • No insurance

Works better than the serial port for the old weather station

My new computer doesn't have a serial port that my old weather station needs. StarTech's USB to serial adapter was easy to set up. Let Windows 10 find the driver. It works better than when it was plugged into my old computer's serial port. I tried another brand adapter that didn't work well with my weather station. It appeared, then it disappeared. Startek works.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Works flawlessly on MacOS Big Sur

After updating macOS to Big Sur, my TripLite Keyspan USB-to-serial adapter stopped working. The Big Sur requires signed drivers, while the Prolific UART chip in Keyspan does not. StarTech uses an FTDI chip and works right out of the box. No need to install any driver, just add a USB to USB-C adapter to plug it in and you're good to go.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not the best

Works with Gerber Envision 375

Got a new computer and was concerned I would no longer have a com port for my plotter, a quick search led me to this type of converter and when choosing a brand I decided chose this brand based on its success with previous products from the same company. Installation was easy.

Pros
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Fairly ok

I had problems with my computer that I thought the card wasn't working. Expected). I solved my problems on my PC and got my hardware working with the built-in com1 port, but it didn't work with any of the Startech ports. I called support to explain that my built in com1 works with my computer but their device uses the same port and no cable settings. Her advice was that I contact my hardware vendor. (Although my com1 computer, cable and machine work fine but not with the startech box) I wish Iโ€ฆ

Pros
  • I'll keep my fingers crossed
Cons
  • Almost never
