crappy plastic case fell apart

When attaching the negative cable, the crappy plastic case fell apart. I could understand this destruction if I twisted the tool hard. But those were just my fingers. Not order. Terrible POS design

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • thin

Don't drop it or it will break.

Right after I received it, I dropped it and the case broke. I had to take the innards and stick them in the body of the old solenoid. The old Solenoid's body probably wouldn't snap if I threw it out the window on the freeway at 75 mph. In any case, the new components work great in the old case.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Not sure

Cannot install on starters and parts

Looks the same. he has not worked yet. There is no way to install it on the boot. I need to make a mount and maybe use a hose clamp to do something for it to install. If I knew it would be like this. I would buy it from a reputable dealer instead. It looks like a cheap general production solenoid valve. I don't think this is a specific part for Evinrude/Johnson engines.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Don't worry about bad reviews. product is ok!

I think all the bad reviews are from people who don't know what they are doing. I just received the solenoid, installed. No problem. I don't see how anyone could break this thing unless they tightened the nuts with a pry bar. I want this product again, see no reason not to.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Nothing here

Sometimes it starts by itself.

Magnet now works as it should. When I installed it, after using the tester to verify operation, I tightened the hot wire from the solenoid to the starter. The engine started turning! And started, the key is not in the ignition lock. I had to choke the carbs with my hands to kill him! I checked a few more times. If you tighten the screws well, then it will be. Not sure. For me it worked as it should. But I won't connect the battery until the boat is in the water so I can troubleshoot.

Pros
  • Brings joy
Cons
  • Discontinued model

Breathtaking! at Starters & Parts

Difficult to install with those tiny screws and no room to turn a wrench, but that's made worse by the mounting system Evinrude gave me for my 70hp outboard. I was blown away by the price and the fact that you can still get one by putting in the model number of my old 1970's 70hp Evinrude outboard. How is that possible? It is confusing. My marine mechanic would charge me at least four times that plus $100 for installation. Installation was difficult due to the tiny parts and lack of space toโ€ฆ

NO OEM part! doesn't fit right.

This is NOT an OEM item! The part first came in a box from a Chinese auto parts manufacturer. If it was an OEM it would have been packaged in a Johnson/Evinrude box. Second, nuts and threads are metric, not SAE. Finally, the case is slightly larger than the original. This will cause the case to crack when you tighten the fastening strap. At the same time, the part still works. Housing cracked during installation. After reading other bad reviews it seems this part is not safe. I am planning toโ€ฆ

Pros

Highly recommended.

Same as OEM unit. Turns out I didn't need to change the solenoid. Use this on a 1992 Johnson 140 V4. The problem was that a few years ago my main negative cable was cut before it got into the hood. This connection had been badly corroded over the years and would not allow full current to flow to the solenoid. Because of this the engine really stalled on start, the gearbox wouldn't disengage from the flywheel, sometimes it just killed the battery trying to start the engine. After replacing theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities.
Cons
  • Unsure.

I've screwed it up TWICE now. Poor quality of this particular product.

Ordered 2 weeks ago. Received and cracked in half in the box. The message was intertwined, like someone tried to use it, destroyed it and sent it back, and then I believe it was sent straight to me. I figured it was just bad luck so I got a refund and bought another one. I just received it yesterday and tried to put it on 15 minutes ago. This time it was in perfect condition. screwed it in, started connecting wires and terminals, turned the top nut half a turn, and the whole thing snapped inโ€ฆ
