4.5 stars! in my review

Only dinged this below a 5 score because it is a rip off for what it is.however, it worked! I loved the split die set up, I had butchered threads at the end of my drag link and I filed it down first to make round again, then placed this on the good threads and backed it off to rethread.did this a couple times and then the nut went right on.

Pros
  • The Steelman M12-1.75 Metric Split Die Thread Chaser has been tested to ensure it delivers the utmost efficiency in repairing threads in the quickest time possible
Cons
  • Limited usefulness for those who primarily work with imperial threads

Top quality, that does the job

Really expensive (but you know that already). Top quality, and a great concept that did the job exactly as it was designed to do.Caution, the two halves of each die are not marked as a pair, so write down the markings for each matched pair half before there is a chance of mixing them up. Or perhaps better yet, put a little different color paint on each set of two halves.

Pros
  • The tools are of good quality and the carrying case is convenient. A good value.
Cons
  • May not work well on rusted or corroded threads

Saved me some serious time/cash

I was able to repair a damaged lug bolt on a car that otherwise would have had me tearing apart my suspension or taking a grinder to it in order to replace. Really cool design that saved the day.

Pros
  • Prevent cross threading - split die design allows repairs to start behind the damaged threads
Cons
  • May not provide a long-lasting repair if the underlying problem is not resolved

Size was not correct

Another review had the same issue. I bought the m12x1.5 and it was not the correct size. It has the correct size printed on the die. But it wouldn’t even attempt to go on a m12x1.5 bolt. This thing sucks. For the $20ish or whatever I paid. I went and picked up a metric tap and die set from a auto part store for $30ish and got the job I needed done. Which was to clean up some wheel stud threads.

Pros
  • Thing is an absolute lifesaver. Way better than a conventional die
Cons
  • May not work well on certain types of metal

Worth the Money on my review.

I don’t write reviews but this die is definitely worth every cent. Was able to repair a ball joint that wash mushroomed at the top. And wow I was able to repair to get my castle nut back on.

Pros
  • Saved me plenty of $$$ not have had the whole plate of 5 replaced!
Cons
  • Takes up additional storage space

it more or less did the job

Bought this to clean up the threads well enough on the lugs of my RV. First time the lug nuts have been off. The tool did clean them up well enough to improve putting the nuts back. I like the two-piece unit and the fact that you can use a standard 1 inch socket to work them. Wish I had obtained a standard die as well. But the tool helped. So I am good.

Pros
  • These don't cut as deep as necessary but can be followed up with regular die
Cons
  • Limited use for those without experience repairing threads

Split design A+ for my opinion

I messed up my crank bolt and a new one is not available. This split design worked perfect so I could start on good threads instead of bad threads.

Pros
  • Thread size - tool fits m12-1.75 metric threaded bolts and fasteners on cars, trucks, etc.
Cons
  • Can be difficult for novice DIY enthusiasts to use

works great for my opinion

I need to fix a small area on a rear lug nut. It took a couple of times but the threader allowed the stripped lug to restore to use again. Good for quick refinish but I would not recommend threading an entire lug nut.

Pros
  • Kind of a pain to keep the two halves engaged, but works well and if you need a split die this one works
Cons
  • Only useful for metric threads

Looks like a pro tool

It really cleaned up some badly damaged threads that were unusable before I re-cut them with this. Should be in your garage toolbox!

Pros
  • I had a bolt that was partially stripped and it took some strength but all in ll it got the job done.
Cons
  • Requires maintenance and sharpening to remain effective

Great product on my review.

While shipping was a little slow, the steelman chased the threads on four wheel studs in ten minutes. It was worth the wait. I’m glad I did not have to replace the studs. That would have taken hours. Great product.

Pros
  • Hardened steel - made of heat-treated and hardened skd11 high carbon and chromium alloy steel
Cons
  • Can be awkward to use in tight spaces or hard-to-reach places

It worked well for me .

And I am nowhere close to being a mechanic. I bunged up some threads working on the lawn mower and this saved the day. As someone else had written, I used vise grips to hold the nut and oiled it well before chasing the threads. I'm not sure how much holding my breath and praying helped, but it saved me a very expensive repair bill.

Pros
  • Automotive
Cons
  • May dull more quickly than other thread-chasing tools
