Waste of money and time

Despite thorough cleaning with alcohol and heating the rim to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, the tape did not stick to the rim. It looked like it was coming off the reel, see photo. Save yourself a day and buy a higher quality product with the manufacturer's logo printed on it. returned product.

This tape did not stick to the Sun Ringle 80 4.8 mule foot. Rim Tape 26 inch

I tried this tape while rebuilding a Sun Ringle 80 Mulefoot. It didn't stick at all. After many tries (brand new rim, wiped completely with alcohol) I gave up and went for Gorilla Tape (the widest tape on the market). Went like clockwork. Yes, G-Tape is heavier, but not by much. For the price I would choose G-Tape.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Easily repairable

Good band, could be wider.

The band itself is great. Adheres well to a clean surface and will not cause installation problems. The downside is that if you use them on Mulefut rims, the small holes in the bead seat are *barely* covered by 78mm tape. The tape must be perfectly centered or they will leak. Whilst the tape is good I would recommend spending a little more money and just getting a Whiskey brand 80mm wide tape.

  • Sleek design

Common tape errors due to weather changes

I put tape on the rim of a Mulefut 80 Sunringle fat bike. The initial installation went smoothly until one cold evening when the tape lost adhesion and leaked through the rim tape all over the wheel. The second setup worked fine for a few days until a hot day came (sunlight heated the tire and gases and dirt in the tire) and the tape failed again. Wheel prep included cleaning and drying with alcohol. Instructions and installation are carefully followed.

Perfect fit for Sun Ringle Fat rims

I pre-assembled Sun Ringle Fat rims without an inner tube. My first attempt at converting tubeless cameras was with Gorilla Tape. I've never had good pressure. I decided to buy this tape and with the help of an assistant we got an excellent airtight seal the first time. Follow the cleaning, degreasing and painting instructions as directed. It is wide to allow an assistant to align the rim well. Very thin with good adhesive so it will hold well once applied. Thin enough not to interfere with the

Instructions are good for rims and parts

I was concerned by all the reviews of adhesion issues but after a month of riding the tape became quite tight losing 1-2psi a day. If you have a fat tire rim from Sun Ringle, it has a fabric inner rim that provides no support. The tape has enough tack to keep it in place until you install the bead. The bead is the only thing holding the band. If you ever pull a fat tire off like I did, the tape will slip off and not form a seal that needs to be re-taped. So put it on, make sure the tape coversโ€ฆ

Preparation is key for this tape to work

Works well when the rim is properly prepared. How can I clean the inside of the rim with rubbing alcohol (I used brake cleaner) to remove the film/grease. You can even use a soft Brillo to lightly roughen the rim surface. Make sure there is a channel for the rim tape to stick to and the rim tape may need to be cut. Before applying, it is recommended to ensure that the border (and area) is over 50 degrees. I used a heat gun to warm up the rim a bit. After application, insert tube into tire andโ€ฆ

rubbish in itself don't forget tape

doesn't work twice tried it even following instructions it's rubbish overpriced and represents well the SAN company the problem is it's not sticky enough to gluing it like this will fail and leak out of your rim tape - fixed? a new roll of duct tape (yes I used an old roll first and had to redo everything) ONE layer on this duct tape, the only time you will need to cut it is at the end when you are done wrapping the sun tape all the way around . show when done. Buy a $25 band, your time is worth it

Tubeless bikes are a huge asset, perhaps more so than any other type of bike. Mulefut rims are the first relatively affordable fat bike rims that work really well tubeless. The Mulefut rims have a fairly high saddle and a fairly aggressive beadlock lip. There are many ways to make a Mulefut rim tubeless, but none is easier or more reliable than buying this tape. Because the mulefut headbands have holes in the seat, you need a band that goes exactly from bead to bead. This tape is the perfectโ€ฆ
