There's a difference

This is my second Surgi-Sharp contra-angle for my knife sharpening business. Since I make about 60 knives a day, this jig is an essential part of my blade accuracy. I've tried several cheaper versions of this mount but they failed my test on a small knife and the quality has noticeably gone down. With Surgi-Sharp, the gap between the tensioner and the belt is very small, which is ideal when you have a narrow or improperly sharpened thin fillet or paring knife that needs reconditioning. I recommend this system!

The first package was lost in the mail. Not Surgi-Sharp's fault. The second package was ok. When attaching the device to my old Delta Rockwell mill, I noticed that the bead was not perpendicular to the belt. A little trip to the vise, a hammer with a block of wood as a buffer, and a few sensible taps and it all snapped back together. I'm sure if the manufacturer is reading this, adjusting the bending machine in production will solve this problem. I also bought a belt and a green polishing cake…

Works great with a little practice and a little modification.

Having been using this angle stop for sharpening kitchen knives and folding knives for 3 weeks now, I am satisfied with it. It works well after a few minutes of trial use IF you're only interested in reusing an old kitchen knife and aren't worried about the sharpening lines staying straight. But if you're using it to sharpen or re-sharpen a valuable knife, it's worth practicing with for a while as there's a slight learning curve.
