I want to use the PEX-40054 on a motherboard that only has SATA II ports (no SATA III ports) so I can get SATA III speed, without having to buy a new motherboard. Here's what I found with a 512GB Transcend SSD370 with a max read/write speed of 560/460MB/s. On the ASUS P8Z77V-LX board, which has both SATA II and SATA III ports, here is the speed of the SSD (without using the PEX-40054 card): - In the SATA III port, the maximum R/ W speed 504/ 457 MB/s, with CrystalDiskMark 3.0 .1- In SATA II…

Great card, even a little bigger than I need

I recently upgraded to this card instead of a Crest 2 Port SATA III PCI-Express x1 IO card (SY-PEX40039). I knew my SSD might be faster than the other card, and the SATA connections on the other card sucked. I bought this device to solve both problems. I haven't had it very long so can't speak to a connector issue (although it uses clips) but I can say the speed increase is phenomenal. With my OCZ Agility 3 I achieve read and write speeds of over 500 MB/s (see attached image). The old card gave

Great for adding hard drives to your system

I have this small RAID card in my Dell PowerEdge T20 server which only has 4 SATA ports on the motherboard. I needed connectors for additional drives, so I connected them to a PCIe x16 slot and connected the two drives to the internal SATA connectors. The card worked perfectly and without any problems. I haven't noticed any difference in speed on any of the hard drives I've used compared to the SATA connectors on the motherboard. This was immediately recognized by the BIOS and my two hard…

Works great 1.5 years later

I bought this to run an SSD on a system that only had Sata II, I was worried the installation would cause problems, the reviews here to read but it was easy and i had absolutely no problems, windows 10 too. The SSD is a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB and I'm approaching the Sata III speeds like other people as can be seen in the pictures in the reviews here. To be honest I'm surprised that this product only has 3 stars on average, it's been a great product for me and saved me from having to upgrade my…

Had to go back.: Internals

I can't speak for other motherboards but in this case I was disappointed and took a long time to build. When installing the card for the first time, don't put on any discs (easy). Install the software (check the website for the latest drivers). I was trying to install it on a Z270 rated EVGA motherboard. I had problems from the start. Bios detection worked/didn't work. I was hoping that something in the software/driver download would recognize this card, but that didn't help. Boot time (via…

Terrible microcircuit family and terrible board.

Terrible. I can't believe this item is for sale. There's so much wrong with him that I don't even know where to start, but I'll try. First, let me tell you where I'm from. I've already read the reviews and wasn't expecting much at first, but I've been looking for a long time for an AHCI chipset (especially AHCI) that is FBS-capable (FIS-based switching) and these guys advertised it. Unfortunately, this chipset does not implement the AHCI specification sufficiently enough for our AHCI driver to…

The simplest and most economical hybrid solution!

Need a lot of storage space, but want SSD performance at a low price? It helps. Works as advertised and pretty easy to install. I've tried using a cheap 30GB SSD as a cache drive and a 1TB HDD with satisfactory success. An added bonus is that you can increase reliability by using RAID1 or slightly improve performance by using RAID 0 on the hard drive side. You are limited to 4 shared ports. So if you use one or both external ports, you lose 1 or 2 internal ports each. This shouldn't be a…

Significant improvement in speed and stability

7/31/14: I believe the external ports for this card should be enabled by moving jumpers on the board. However, this is not clearly stated in the instructions. If you don't, you won't be able to use this card to connect to an external drive. From the manual it says you can only enable 2 internal ports, only 2 external ports or 1 internal port and 1 external port at the same time. On Windows 7 64-bit, my 1TB Samsung EVO SSD was reading 100-120MB per second. on the SATA II connector on the Asus…
