Good umbrella: luggage and travel gear

Bought this umbrella to use in heavy rain. I can't carry large umbrellas and this one met my needs. It's quite large and covers me, my pockets etc. I also have small wrists and hands and sometimes I find it difficult to hold an umbrella. It's not very heavy and durable. The only problem I have is that when closing it is difficult to wrap enough to close the velcro. So I use a heavy rubber band.

Pros
  • Useful for more than intended purpose
Cons
  • Crumpled

Fashion and quality

I bought this umbrella model ten years ago. It's surprisingly large for how compact it is when folded. I've worn it on windy rainy days and so far it's been strong enough not to break when caught in the wind. When my daughter wanted one for Christmas I knew I had to get this for her and was very surprised to find it in her favorite cheetah print! Win, win!

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • I'm worried

Not good for the Totes brand

I have had two Totes umbrellas in the last 15 years which have been great. I recently had to order a new one and thought this one from Revain would be good. This is no longer the sturdy, well-made umbrella it once was. Also, I wanted an auto raise/lower feature due to my arthritis and the umbrella only partially opens with the auto pull tab and I still have to open it manually. Worked in the rain last week. Until I decided to take care of the return.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Had a nice umbrella but weak

This umbrella broke the first time I used it in strong winds. He turned and broke his ribs. I understand Totes doesn't market this model as a windproof umbrella, but there have been people around me with $10 supermarket umbrellas who didn't have this problem. Worst of all I couldn't just turn it over and keep using it, it was ruined. Before this happened it was a great umbrella with a good balance of size, weight and portability. Just don't use it in the wind.

Pros
  • GOLS certificate
Cons
  • Nothing here

Neverwet works with umbrellas

I have had another bag very similar to this one for 4 years. It started leaking water so looking for a replacement brought me here. The Neverwet idea made sense and wasn't much more expensive, so I gave it a try. I live in central Pennsylvania, so we get a lot of rainy days. I had to wait 2 or 3 days to try it. Of course, it worked perfectly, opened and closed easily, and kept me dry as an umbrella. I noticed that most of the water was shaken off the fabric when I got to work. It wasn't…

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Upgradable

Excellent coverage but difficult to close.

I think this is a good choice for an umbrella. I love the big dome, the high quality material and the push open/close function. However, the material is so thick that it can be very, very difficult to re-wrap it after use (i.e. trying to pull it tight enough to put velcro on it). You put a lot of effort into twisting it super tight before you can snap it into place. It's also a fairly heavy umbrella and I prefer something smaller or lighter for my handbag, but this offers much better coverage…

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • No insurance
