Not the best among routers

I don't give this router 5 stars because 5G doesn't even work. When you get 5G the internet doesn't work and I know it's not my connection as I think 2G works fine on the same device. I cannot recommend this router as it does not meet my expectations.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Poor instructions

Very disappointed they are selling Ver 1 so three years.

Very disappointed that they are selling version 1 which is three years old. The current version is 2. It is also not possible to connect to the admin account via HTTPS, you can only connect via insecure http, which means anyone can see your admin account password so they can login , modify and hijack your router. Also, TP-Link does NOT update the firmware on most of these routers, has a recent security vulnerability, and TP-Link manufacturers need to release a firmware update in this case. Inโ€ฆ

You will nowhere near the advertised speeds

This is a terrible $50 router (that's Revain's current price) I'm near my router and I'm the only one who does uses the internet. I never get above 40 Mbps (my internet plan is below 200 Mbps and that's the speed I get from my modem). As you can see in the picture, I'm standing with my phone right next to the router, which allows the 5T to more than achieve those speeds. The manufacturer description on the picture says "SMOOTH HD STREAMING AND ONLINE GAMES" but then it is compared to otherโ€ฆ

10/100 WAN and LAN interfaces only.

Instant great distance all over my house, much better than previous Wi-Fi routers---but after upgrading my internet to 150mbps and surfing 170 on the tester from the modem all I see is 95 max on each device. I was completely stunned and utterly disappointed to discover that this device ONLY has a 10/100 WAN port and LAN ports. How can you sell Wi-Fi 1350 Mbps and NOT install a GIG WAN interface?

Good buy for computers and accessories

I purchased this item because my modem couldn't cover the full house well enough. I set this up by connecting the ethernet line from the modem directly to the TP-Link router. Setup was easy and quick. With an upload/download speed of 150MB, there are no bottlenecks or slowdowns. We can broadcast HD video according to your needs and expectations. This is a good buy at a reasonable price. Update May 2018: The router is still working. It survived several power outages and went back online withoutโ€ฆ

works well when it does things other than POS

New update Wow, another Chinese made device that works for a while and then fails. My 2nd, 3rd and 4th computers are again connected to this router with 2 bd590 DVD players. Couldn't allow network access tonight. I can only thank comcrap for the 4 port modem. I already have 3 of these supposed routers and the last one failed after 3 weeks. Now I'm not a noob in this environment as I'm 73 years old and have been doing this since the early 60's just another example of a failed product, moreโ€ฆ

When I first read the reviews I thought it was ok, just let me try.

Lots of mixed reviews. It sucks. I've only had it for about 25 days and it's already giving me problems. This delays a lot and gives us a slow return time. I've had to restart it. If I'm on a laptop and my husband is streaming something on the Firestick, then one of us is guaranteed to experience some kind of lag. We don't have many things, maybe around 7 devices, but not all at the same time, and there are still problems with only around 3 working at the same time. I'll return it and pay a few

Pros
  • GOLS certified

  • Infinitely sluggish

Great value

I love this router. Setup was easy and the performance of my application is excellent. I had a problem that I caused myself. When setting up, I used the old power cord from the previous router. It turned out that not enough juice was coming out, which caused the new TP-Link router to reboot under load. Once I figured that out and used the correct power cord that came in the box, it worked like a dream. It is very fast, reliable and stylish looking. I like the ability to have a wide frequencyโ€ฆ
