Fantastic device after I stopped reading the manual.

This is a fantastic device once I stop reading the instructions. The instructions require you to download the controller software, but this is windows only (once you can find it on the site) and I have a Mac. I downloaded some Mac software but it kept crashing unexpectedly. At one point I was convinced that I needed to buy additional controller hardware. After I started downloading the Windows VM image to then download the controller software, another reviewer (thanks) pointed out that the…

Completely solved our free standing garage wifi problem

I would actually only give 4 stars because the instructions are too complicated but overall it's a solid 5 stars. We have a separate garage that's close enough to get our home WiFi signal, but far enough away that even if you're connected to that signal, nothing happens, so you have to manually unplug your device and use the cellular signal . Real PITA. So I ran CAT5e from our router through a covered walkway soffit to the garage, mounted TP-LINK in the ceiling, hooked up a PoE injector for…

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • not bad

Ignore the bad reviews on this product. Most of these reviewers do not rate the quality and functionality of the product, but rather the installation process. This isn't your typical consumer networking product that you can just plug and play. However, you can do just that if you don't want to customize any of the security settings or settings required for proper use. You need some basic networking knowledge to install this device. The instructions included in the package only include…

A very impressive, feature-rich, multi-band access point.

This access point has about 90-95% of the features that much more expensive devices have. I've worked with many high-end access points (I used to be a wireless engineer and an RF designer) and this device has impressed me with its performance, features, and cost. (One note: if you are using this with a VPN you may need to reduce the frame size on your router. If your VPN goes down on your DSL you will need to take care of that. I had this problem, I reduced the frame size on the Router and…

Works great so far!

I've been thinking of buying a mesh WiFi system for a few hundred dollars. My house is connected to ethernet but not everything is connected and my router has a lot of dead zones throughout the house. If you have ethernet in your home or can connect it to another area where WiFi is weak, this is the solution you need without spending hundreds of dollars on a mesh router. My router is relatively new, it supports N networks but no AC. It wasn't old enough to really need replacing. There is no…

Pros

  • Factor Set

Four and a half stars. Impressive enterprise-class product at a good price. I keep burning home wifi routers. I get bad reception but I usually get two or three years from them. My last TP-Link home WiFi router lasted 3 years and is no longer manufactured. So I had to step up a bit. My job is to be a large combined Wi-Fi hotspot corporate network that works great. It uses Cisco hardware, which is pretty slick and unobtrusive. This device is quite large, but if you mount it on the ceiling, it…
