The material is carbon steel, which is very suitable for linear motion rod. The surface has been chrome plated to enhance the hardness. Chamfer on both ends, easier to install linear bearings and won't hurt fingers when installing it. Round steel shaft for use with linear support blocks and closed type slide units in linear motion applications. Diameter 8mm, tolerance -0.005mm to -0.03mm ( 7.995mm - 7.97mm), length 400mm, tolerance ± 0.5mm ( 399.5mm - 400.5mm ).

Smooth Linear Guides

I am building an additional 3D printer from scratch for my kids. I saw these linear guides and although they are too long for my application I was able to trim them successfully. After applying lube to the rails they work great and are clearly aligned and straight. I don't think there will be quality issues over time. I know some other reviewers have complained about the beveled edge, but I haven't had this issue with the ones I received.

Bad surface finish.

Photos show some of the many surface defects. The rod itself appears straight and regular within the specified tolerance, but the nicks and scratches on the surface make it unsuitable for my application. You can hear clicks and feel nicks as the stem bearings move up and down. The bars look nothing like the ones in the seller's pictures and appear to be nothing more than a cut piece of steel. One bar even had burrs on the end where the saw didn't go all the way through. If I had paid for them I

Terrible quality: Linear Motion Products

This is one of the worst "precision" rods I've ever bought. This would be more appropriate source material for someone to abandon and convert to final dimensions. Almost anything that could be messed up in these bars, they did. First the only good thing: the bars are chrome plated, but not on the ends and it's not a very good finish (more on that below). They are mostly straight. Very slight bending of the bars, but almost imperceptible. I don't have the right equipment to measure runout…
