Sexy routers for IT people - code only buggy AF

UPDATE: I found the secret of this router: do the initial setup with the wizard, then discard the web interface until it's assembled. . For some reason, the changes are not immediately reflected in the web interface. Change to 5 stars. I love this router. USE CLI = beer. I bought this router a week ago. I have two ISPs, IoT subnets and people. The setup was simple/trivial, but it didn't work. I set up eth0 and 1 as wans and then used 5 and 2 as cables to the switches. I sat down at the console,

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • For old

Small box, big potential.

I've been a fan of Ubiquity products for a year. This device makes an excellent OpenBSD router. My only complaint is that unlike the Edgerouter Lite, this device doesn't have an easily removable EdgeOS memory module, so it takes more effort to flash OpenBSD. (I know I've probably voided my warranty and take that responsibility.) This is an amazing little box and I would buy it again.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • New competitors are here

Great performance with inconsistent firmware and unreliable GUI

6p (so far) 5 stars on performance but current firmware health is over 1/2 so I've averaged my score to 3. Firmware, especially GUI, in version 1.10.3 leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, there is a GUI with wizards, but you will soon find that many configuration options require a command line interface and the command line interface is the only way to get accurate operational and configuration information. I've made (and committed) changes to the command line interface or saved changes to the GUI,

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Very expensive

Great little OpenBSD firewall

As advertised. I installed OpenBSD on it and made it my new home firewall. It's done a great job so far (and as a result of this setup, Visa has configured the OpenBSD octeon to support SMP out of the box on this hardware)!

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Great software switchable router

Not sure about old reviews and UI/software issues. Worked great right out of the box with a great full featured browser interface and lots of usage data. Set it up directly from the browser interface without using the Ubiquiti controller software. As another reviewer pointed out, use the setup wizard and tweak it when you're done. PoE 2 and 4 pairs, all 5 ports can be software enabled as a switch, dual WAN with traffic balancing and failover and fanless. What else can you expect for this price?

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Not sure

On my way to the top-end prosumer routers

I bought my EdgeRouter 6P as an upgrade from the EdgeRouter POE so I could have two working routers and meanwhile didn't had to be offline a firmware update. I have previously tried the EdgeRouter X for this purpose and found it useless as the ER-X has very little memory. Just enable logging and ER-X will fill up the drive and stop working after two weeks. ER-6P is a whole different story. It has 4 GB Flash instead of 2 GB ER-POE, 1 GB RAM instead of 512 MB ER-POE and four 1 GHz MIPS64 cores…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • It's hard to remember but it was

I wanted to love this product so bad but it's damn flawed

I rarely write reviews but I had to write one for this POS. It looks great at first glance, chic design, passive cooling, six Gigabit Ethernet ports and one SFP. Then comes the problem, the first thing all reviews tell you is to use the wizard to set it up. Magic my ass! The wizard will ask you for basic setup information, e.g. B. which ports you want to use for your WAN and which ports for your LAN. So I chose Eth0 and Eth5 and the LAN ports were Eth1 and ETH2. The wizard then asks about using

  • Slightly wrinkled

Ubiquiti makes me sad

I'm a network engineer and I own and manage hundreds of Ubiquiti products in five states. I have almost every model of their EdgeRouter and EdgeSwitch products, plus a dozen wireless access points, switches, and Unifi controllers sitting next to me right now. I'm tired of crappy software, lack of support, toxicity and abuse. from this company. Where do I even start? Ubiquiti is good at marketing, hype, and social media, but bad at support, updates, fixes, and improvements. Marketing of Ubiquiti
