Only 1 month in to use and one solid camping trip down, this unit preformed well. Solid construction and easy to assemble especially with power tools.Can't comment on paint/coating holding up on the unit for daily use as it is in storage most of the time, mainly because of the increased wind noise and drag on the vehicle when at speed. This is exactly what I was (you are) looking for. Seems to be a solid cargo basket, except for the space between the metal extension and the front and back sections. I wouldn’t put any weight directly in the gap. The directions are very simple to follow, but I did use my own Allen tool since this came with a cheap Allen that stripped on the first bolt. Quality is good not great. Let me explain, the roof rack does need to be sealed at the joints with black silocone. Be warned it will rust if you live in a humid and wet environment. Other than that its very sturdy and geta the job done. I also used thread sealant. Might be overkill but better safe that sorry. I read most all of the reviews and was aware that many claimed that it rusted after the first rain. True to the reviews it did just that in the welding points. We are SO happy we decided to purchase this roof rack. FYI: it does require crossbars, which I didn’t know when we purchased it. But! It’s so much larger than we had anticipated, and made our move out of state with the last dregs of our things so much easier. I bought this product to put on my car for a trip back home to Los Angeles from Portland. It was super easy to assemble myself and put it on the car. I did need help putting it on top of the car and making sure it was centered but other than that it was a one person job! Was able to put two suitcases and two duffle bags on top with no movement at all for the 1k mile trip! Great buy!

Simple to assemble and install. If you use your imagination and some silicone you can prevent any water from getting inside, and prevent any rust issues. The parts come nicely wrapped in thin white foam. I cut this into small strips and rolled them up. Then I stuffed the foam rolls into the ends of the pipes and covered that with some silicone. Waterproof! I’ve attached some photos.

It worked perfectly when I tied down a bike and 3 large totes on to the rack and drove 300+ miles with no problem. Not sturdy but it served its purpose.

The rack is perfect! Very sturdy and easy to assemble. Deff need the cross arms to use but I read that in another review and made sure I had mine in time. The bag ripped horribly the first time we used it for our trip and we most definitely didn't over pack it. But we wanted the rack the most and bought different, more sturdy bag for the trip home and future use.

This has been on the car now for a little over a month. Survived a 1000 mile road trip with a full load in stormy conditions, so seems to be a good little rack. However, some rusting is starting, both on the inside of the tubes and on the u bolt attachment points. If you buy this, make sure you hit it with some kind of protectant early on.

Review after 2 camping trips. Roof rack held about 100 lbs of gear pretty well. Minimum wind noise. Assembly can and installation can take a while. My product came with on of the bars bent so I had to take some pliers to straighten it out so it would fit together. Cargo net did its job and expands well. Shipping was fast.

Every spot the metal rod connects was rusting the first time it rained. Had some scratches already in it from the moment I opened the box. Not really holding that against them since it could’ve happened in shipping, but worth mentioning that it scratched easily.
