Inconvenient to ship but survive.

They withstand the harsh shipping conditions during transit. BUT things packaged with one or two of them aren't that good. You can order them separately and specify that orders will not be combined. Be sure to save the spindle to attach.

. only 50% of these drives are used and they suck. At least 10 failed.

I've only used 50% of these drives and they suck. At least 10 of them failed data validation and some of my discs have been sold to customers. I think I bought them before but forgot I had the same problem and accidentally ordered them again. Nothing but garbage. Verbatim used to be a good brand, but Maxell is blowing up their doors. I will spend extra money to get good things. I want to return the bugs and the rest of the crap I have and don't even want a refund. I just want to get her out ofโ€ฆ

Hard Drive Problems

Usually buy 50 packs included in the spindle housing. The burns were always perfect. These 100 packs had many quality control issues. The first set I got kept getting errors at the 9% level. Thought it might be my burner, bought another same brand DVD-R and they all worked. Revain, let me come back for a replacement. The second set burned with no errors, but 3 out of 5 discs burned resulted in the DVD player making a loud spinning noise and just stopping after about 20 minutes. It's even worseโ€ฆ

High quality CD/DVD media

I'm sorry to have to downgrade my previous five star rating to Not Recommended. I've burned thousands of Verbatim CDs/DVDs over the years with no problems. However, the last batch had a failure rate of 75%. At first I thought it might be a problem with my DVD/CD drive, so I replaced the drive with a new one. However, the same problems remained after installing a new drive. I then contacted the drive manufacturer who said they no longer recommend Verbatim media and suggested trying HP mediaโ€ฆ

No problem, best in accessories and consumables

For some reason my DVD drive is NOT burning 16x blanks anymore. So I had to switch to these 8x blanks because they're the only ones that burn properly (or at all). While I could have gotten the 16x discs cheaper - I had to spend a bit more for these - 0.26 cents each versus 0.17 cents (16x). But I've had virtually NO PROBLEM with these 8x transcripts, I can't recall even a single mistake (and I've used hundreds so far). If something does not change, I recommend these blanks (albeit moreโ€ฆ

Excellent product in Accessories & Consumables

I've used about 200 of these DVDs with a failure rate of only about 2%. I used to order Sony DVDs to print because they had good reviews from critics and because I've had good experiences with Sony products myself. With the Sony DVD, I had about 25% bounce rates. I print labels on my DVDs with the Epson Artisan 835 and Artisan 50 printers (both great machines, the 835 is a bit more comfortable when printing multiple identical DVDs or CDs) and get great results. Verbatim's 97016 printable DVDsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • I don't really like it everything is fine

$2 MAM-A Gold seems to be the best of the 100 year gold discs while 60 cent DataLifePlus seems to be the only cheap discs similarly claiming that the superior base (metal azo) extends the life of the data. DataLifePlus drives are affordable enough for everyday use. So in answer to the question that even if it's just HBO movies, you probably prefer never to suffer that your big stack of DVDs are useless. UPDATE 2010: After years of use, I found a "white label" issue. (aka "Inkjet") DVD. We store
