Don't shoot through ice.

I was disappointed that it could read through the ice and it was very difficult for me to read in the lake I live on due to the high amount of algae. I returned it. However, Vexlar is a very good fish finder.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

quickly determine the water depth

I used to throw a tape measure to measure the depth of the lake around the docks when listing a property for sale. I know I can test all angles in a fraction of the time it took and no longer have to lug around 50-100ft of tape.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • I don't remember

Very easy to use and accurate

Excellent device. Useful when scouting anchorages on a boat or checking our built-in sailboat sonar. My husband loved this gift and after using it this summer he still loves it. He is very difficult to please!

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Zero

does what it says - Automotive and automotive electronics

Powerful enough to be tossed in a jet ski storage compartment and accurate enough that I can calibrate body mounted sensors with their readings since I don't "offset". must guess. "Also waterproof, lightweight, with one button controls and floats.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Upgrades

works cool! by Marine Electronics

works great! I use it on my little shrimp boat in Puget Sound because I don't have the energy to operate a sonar. I can even get my depth at around 5 miles per hour. On my big pots I can point it at them by pulling them up and it will tell me how much more I have to go

Pros
  • The best in its niche
Cons
  • Almost never

worked fine except on ice.

Bought to easily measure depth on ice when traveling so I don't have to recalibrate my Vexilar FL20 sonar with camera every time. didn't read well through the ice, must try again to see better results. but it is good to read to the bottom in clear water.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Compatibility

Mixed feelings about it. Seems to work. Good

My father has a Marcum pocket computer that works very well. I have a Vexilar flasher that I am very happy with and this handheld IS waterproof and floatable. Both pluses. However, I cannot determine the exact depth through the ice. Marcum even seems to work well on 18 inch ice or so. Vexilar wasn't that impressed. I also prefer reading on Marcum.

Simple and accurate for sonar and sonar

We are very happy with this product. It comes with feet but there are micro switches under the front cover. One is in the other direction, change it so they are all going in the same direction and that's then in meters! We use it when we anchor on our cabin cruiser, we can anchor very shallow. Check the depth in different directions and, if necessary, take it on a boat and measure in the swing range of the anchor. Fabulous!

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Nothing

Exact depth at hand

I'm a kayak fisherman. I wanted a quick and easy way to check water depth without all the bells and whistles of a full fish finder with transponder, cables, battery etc. It's perfect. Just stick it in the water and push the button forward, pull up and read the depth. I tested the accuracy in a boat with an echo sounder. It works right out of the box. Couldn't be happier. Not cheap but worth the price.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Out of fashion
