Good compromise when it comes to bedding

First of all, my wife and I have a typical story: one likes a soft bed, the other a hard surface. So there's no way to make us both happy. Yes, this includes this top layer. However, as someone who likes to sleep on a piece of plywood, I found this to be a workable compromise. We put a sleeping mattress on it, mine was still firm (70) and my wife was soft (30). I've always been a bit wary of buying a memory foam topper as I'm warmer and my biggest dislike is sweating while sleeping.
