We have used them in both industrial Ethernet applications and in HDMI extenders that use CAT 5 or 6 cables. They don't have any of signals disturbed. In 2 years of use on 100-300ft cables we haven't had any surge damage so either they work or we didn't need protection. However, the low cost of this item makes it useful insurance in case something happens.

I had 2 sets of switches that died from lightning strikes near my house before I found them. It took me a while to understand what was going on. I have 4 ethernet networks over 100 feet long. Now with a full set of WatchfulEyes (8, 2 at each end of each run) I've had no issues during the last 3 major thunderstorms. When testing with speedtest.net WatchfulEye seems to have no effect. B. for speed, reliability, jitter or echo request. I thought I would at least notice some issues with speed tests
