It still holds up - External Hard Drives

I'm not a very picky tech pro but I've had this unit for a few years and it still works great so it counts as great in my book. Drives get either 5 stars from me if they last a long time or 1 star if they break and lose my data, I'm well aware of a thing or two because I just need them to keep my data safe and don't have to worry about bean counting other technical details about the performance. I use it everyday just plugging it in as extra storage on my desk so I don't travel with it, never…

Perfect fit for Xbox One

I bought this hard drive for my Xbox One and was worried it would be complicated to install but it was CRAZY easy. For 2TB I can have all my games on my hard drive and easily access them with Kinect. Also, the moment I connected it to the Xbox, I was prompted to set up the hard drive, which just gave it a name. Of course, I chose "Watson" because my XBone has an increased ability to remember and feel emotions. After that it asks if you want to use it as your default hard drive and since mine…

Reliability issues after less than 10 uses.

I bought this drive 4 months ago as a backup because my iOmega drive finally started failing after 5 years. This drive worked really well when I initially transferred around 150-200GB of files to it on the first day. After less than 10 uses, there may be problems registering on any computer. When I plug it in, the drive buzzes and the light comes on, but the computers just don't "see" it. Eventually, I keep unplugging and plugging it back in until computers can finally read it. Other days it…

Ultraportable is ultraportable!

Bought as an alternative to a very bulky 1TB backup drive for my Macbook Pro. As a photographer, photos and videos accumulate on my computer at an alarming rate. And because of the high quality of the files, when my entire system starts to slow down, I know it's time for a cleanup. The problem was that having to install an external drive with an independent power supply was just annoying. This little gem has twice the storage and is about a quarter the size of my other drive. I have it within…

WD They released these updated Ultra versions in 500GB, 1TB, 2TB and a new 3TB. (For 2TB, the old version was model number WDBMWV0020BBK-NESN and the new version was model number WDBBKD0020BBK-NESN). (see image for size comparison of each new model and old model) Higher capacity now available up to 3TB compared to older models only up to 2TB. Optional 256-bit AES hardware encryption. Now available in white. Like the old model. Nothing has changed. The weight is exactly the same. at 0.50 lb…

Cons
  • You could choose a newer model

This model is a 2015 generation of My Passport drives that I own or have purchased for clients have. They have proven to be reliable and powerful. They gradually improved with each new generation. OVERALL (for the impatient): The new model is slightly faster than last year's, and 3TB and 4TB models have been added. This My Passport Ultra has a more attractive satin finish, and there's now a white model that better suits Mac users. Otherwise it is almost identical to the older model. If you…
