Difficult to install, but worth it to make your lights smart!

I am a smart home techie and utilize a wide variety of brands & products to automate my home and make life easier. That being said, I've had one LED fixture on my front porch that is too low wattage to be controlled by competing smart switches and it's been driving my wife and I crazy! I was surprised and relieved to see WEMO now offered one with such a wide compatibility of LED wattage. I was excited to finally bring smart home functionality to this important outdoor bulb.Installation was a…

Upgrading to Thread

I have been using Z-Wave devices in our home since 2016. With the release of the THREAD standard, I wanted to try out this new technology. I purchased two of these dimmer switches for the vanity and bath lights in the master. I also purchased an EVE brand THREAD capable motion sensor. I set the lights to turn on at a given brightness between 5AM and 9AM and a lower dimmer setting between 4pm and 9pm. Moving from Z-wave to Thread looks to be a good decision, the lights are very responsive to the

Pros
  • Simple installation process
Cons
  • Requires a smartphone or tablet to control

Major downgrade from V1

I purchased several of the V2 smart dimmers direct from Belkin/Wemo. The new edition may add Thread support, but the UX of these switches is now probably the worst in the business. The V1 model used an LED indicator to show the dimming level of the lights and allowed you to slide your finger to set a dimming level. The new version has no visual indicators, and also doesn't allow for sliding to choose the light level. Dimming the lights requires holding the up or down button, and waiting for the

Pros
  • Makes dimming and brightening your lights effortless
Cons
  • May not be customizable enough for advanced users

Easiest HomeApp setup ever

One of the things that drives me crazy is setting up smart home devices. Be close to this, be sure to turn that off, you have to install the app, etc. This is a cut above.First, it's made exclusively for Homekit. It's not bloated by support for Alexa or Google. So how does setup go? Once it's connected, simply hold your iPhone near it, and it makes an NFC connection and Home asks if you want to install a light. Press the button and wait a moment, then it's all good to go and Home asks you for…

Pros
  • BUILT WITH THREAD: Thread technology allows smart home products to connect faster and more reliably than ever. The Wemo Smart Dimmer Light Switch with Thread also supports Bluetooth if your device doesn’t support Thread.
Cons
  • The dimming feature may not work as smoothly as traditional switches

Reliable dimmers for my opinion

I have these all over my house and don't use the Alexa integration, but I do use the dimmer functions and have been happy with them so far. The only downside is they are a little slow to cycle from dim to brightest, but they are reliable and easy to install. I like that I could control them from afar by using my Alexa App as the central hub point.I am not sure if it is unique to this dimmer so I didn't remove any stars, but with some fixtures I find it takes about 3 seconds for the light to…

Pros
  • APPLE HOMEKIT ENABLED: Designed to work with all Apple HomeKit compatible devices, including Wemo Smart Video Doorbell to turn on lights when motion is detected.
Cons
  • Threading process can be difficult for those who are not tech-savvy

Pricey, but really great switch!

I am usually an Elgato Eve buyer but since (as of 01/2023) they do not sell a proper dimmer switch in the US, I decided to look at the Wemo option.I also wanted a switch with thread as I have the latest Apple TV & HomePod Mini as well as a couple other thread accessories so it would join a reliable mesh. Note that although this switch has THREAD it probably will never be part of the MATTER standard. Since I’m pretty much exclusively an Apple HomeKit user this didn’t really mean anything to me…

Pros
  • Simple touch pad control
Cons
  • May not work well in extreme temperature or humidity conditions

Awful Experience! 2nd One is OK!

Had an awful experience with this switch, and I have 9 other Wemo dimmers, switches, and scene controllers. The v2 is definitely a downgrade. The cutoff tab on mine keeps popping out and turns the lights off, so I’m waiting for a replacement, but that’s not where things end. As the other reviewer mentioned, the physical control of this dimmer is a nightmare with no feedback. If you want to use HomeKit only, it’s fine, but otherwise it’s just bad design. Even the aesthetics is not on par with…

Pros
  • Compatible with existing wiring
Cons
  • May require firmware updates and ongoing maintenance

Terrible switch; Decent HomeKit Capability

Update 9/17/2022:Lowered it from two stars to one and here is why: To ebay's credit they sent me a replacement that arrived quickly, so I swapped it out only to find the replacement was defective too, but not for the same reason. The clip that pulls out to cut power to the switch is spring loaded and won't stay in. The original switch had this same cut-off switch but it stayed in, and had to be drawn out with your finger nail, but when pressed in it stayed. So now I've received two switches…

Pros
  • Comes with a WiFi connection
Cons
  • May not work well in homes with multiple floors or separate buildings

Problems with the Dimmer Switch

As much as I would like to love this dimmer, there are problems with it and with Belkin/Wemo support. The item seemed fine and had good installation instructions but did not work. There is a switch on the unit that is designed to allow for changing light bulb safely. This is a nice idea but not implemented properly. The switch can pop out, disabling the dimmer, and not be able to go back in.I contacted Belkin/wemo support and was initally told that this was a known issue and they would replace…

Pros
  • Elegant design that enhances room decor
Cons
  • May not be able to detect and adjust to changes in ambient light

Power cutoff button is defective and doesn't stay engaged.

Saw other users experienced the same problem. I ordered a second switch and hope I don't have the same issue. I believe this is a design flaw that Belkin/WeMo should investigate.

Pros
  • Made with high-quality materials
Cons
  • May interfere with other wireless devices in the home

HomeKit and No Neutral

Installation was easy. It paired with HomeKit easily. While I have neutrals in my box, this is the only one of these types of Wi-Fi switches I've seen that doesn't require a Neutral, something older homes may find worthwhile.I'm not using it on a dimming light, but it works as designed and marketed. There aren't many HomeKit devices on the market, so I appreciate this one being HomeKit compatible!

Pros
  • Dimmer Switches
Cons
  • Limited color options for the switch itself

WEMO has been steadily declining

I have the first version of this and that had its own issuesThis unit has some defect where the spring loaded tensioner just random shoots off incredibly frustratingI was pretty invested into WEMO which is a subsidiary of Belkin, this is just another example of poor engineering. I.E their plugs that refuse to turn back on after power flickers, I think it is time to just accept it and migrate fully to Kasa.

Pros
  • Allows for voice control with Siri or Amazon Alexa
Cons
  • The switch may not be as sturdy or durable as traditional switches

Arrived Damaged on my review.

I was excited to try this new version of the WeMo dimmer, however, the item arrived damaged with broken pieces of plastic in the box and could not even be installed. I will be returning it.

Pros
  • There is a tab that disconnects and it stays sticking out. I taped it down at it operates as it should
Cons
  • Requires professional installation

Only works with Apple? No thanks.

I’ve been a wemo user for many years, have multiple light switches, bulbs, and room heater. Order this one because I needed another dimmer, thought cool update, but when I received I read it only works with Apple Homekit? What the heck? Everything else from wemo used to work with ebay Alexa, Apple and Google. Why in the world would Wemo limit this to only Apple Homekit?Returned!

Pros
  • Tracks energy usage to save you money
Cons
  • Potential for bugs or glitches that affect performance

Big Downgrade for a V2

These are supposed to be "easier" to install and with the built in Thread, I was sold. These things are dangerous. Connectors in the back are super hard to attach. you have to screw it in just right or it doesn't work. Hoping the V3 is an actual improvement so I can upgrade the house.

Pros
  • Comes with a comprehensive user manual
Cons
  • May not work with all types of fixtures or light bulbs
