Like many other buyers, bought it in July.

Like many other buyers, I bought it in July 2017 after watching the ATK video. I wanted to replace a Foodsaver that was 4 or 5 years old and eventually died. I only use it 6 or 8 times a year to vacuum seal fish in the freezer. Weston was problematic from the start, but I really wanted him to work. I replaced the gasket but that didn't help. It basically turned on, started vacuuming, hit four bars (out of 7) on the vacuum progression, and then just ran and ran and ran. After all, you read some…

Use a quality Weston and avoid FoodSaver litter.

Seals well. I buy chicken, beef and a hamburger, cut the meat and seal it. It's done at the same time, and Weston handles it with no problem. Tolerates moisture well and does not overheat. American Test Kitchen ranked it number one, and I can see why. That's a beast. Prior to this purchase I bought the best FoodSaver in the range (FM5000 series) and it was awful. It struggled to seal anything that had even the slightest bit of moisture, overheated, and required long waits between seals. To seal

Has stopped working after 5 months of light use

I gave this vacuum sealer to my boyfriend the same day he proposed to me and the short beginning of our marriage has already survived this vacuum sealer. This was his birthday present a year ago after seeing the America's Test Kitchen review. It broke after 5 months of light use and no longer sucks air. He contacted Weston and was given a list of tests that needed to be run. I guess the list seemed huge to him and he put it aside. It would be nice if Weston would do the shipping for customers…

Weston Vacuum Sealer 65-0501

Please note - this machine appears to be a newer version of the Weston Professional Advantage. They have the same model number. I chose the Weston primarily because of its positive review in Cooks Illustrated magazine over other models (if you're unfamiliar with CI reviews, they're pretty detailed). This model uses a more powerful vacuum motor, which draws in more air and keeps food fresher for longer - a statement that is confirmed in the test. The controls are simple and intuitive. Weston…

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • Hard to remember but it was

I bought this from Revain in June 2016. In the beginning everything was great. Sealed like a champion. Seemed solid etc. However now the vacuum part is not working properly. Sometimes it just won't close. I've found that if I click the center (W logo) I can move it, but it still doesn't seem that strong. Interestingly, this is because you have to press firmly on both sides when closing the lid for it to latch properly - I suspect the lid will flex a bit over time and repeated use. As far as I…

Worth the money good for kitchen and dining room

Has much better suction power than my old food helper. It's a bit annoying that I have to pat the foam seal down after almost every use because it stretches a bit. You really just have to take your finger and tap it, but I'm not sure if I should do that. I now exchange it every day for a significantly higher quality than my old vacuum sealer. I like the fact that I can stop the suction midway and seal the bag. This is useful for fragile items, as well as things with hard edges that might…

It's a great sealer BUT it needs refills from time to time

I purchased this sealer in November 2016 after a very positive review on the PBS Hit American Cooking Show. ;-) Her comment was that this is a very serious and very strong seal. In fact it is both. This seal is well made and very strong. When used correctly, it can actually be useful for sealing food for storage in the freezer, refrigerator or pantry. He seems to use Weston and FoodSaver packs equally well. After about 18-24 months of use, however, I noticed that it no longer pulls air out of…
