Bought for my 6 year old nephew! He hasn't built it yet, but he's so excited that on Thanksgiving he said he's thankful for his log train!

About fifty models of this type were built, eight locomotives. This is a hood like any other. Worked fine when done. Would give five stars but the instructions aren't perfect - can be followed but requires attention.

A Christmas present that hasn't arrived yet but is well wrapped. The box did not appear to be crumpled. You can see through the cellophane that it is a tree. I'd love to tell you more, but until I get a response from the donor I really don't know.

Metal coil spring motor will not wear out. Some other wooden models have rubber band "motors" that will dry out and stop working unless you take the model apart (if possible) and install a rubber "motor". This Choo Choo motor looks good and is easy to ride (although not far).

Parts come off the boards harder than most other sets I've built (14 so far, everything from trains to boats). I'm just getting started and every part I've used has required hand filing, sanding, waxing and what I consider to be excessive assembly effort. IMHO, the worst set I've tried. If you buy one, be prepared to spend some time on it as filing and trimming is absolutely essential. Quite unlike other Wood Trick sets I've built which have been excellent.

I would say that the excellent quality of the set was on par with U gears. A little harder than I thought for the size of the model. The guide was fair (U-shaped gears are better). What I really liked was the use of a metal ribbon spring for the power supply (instead of rubber bands). As with all these wooden mechanical models, ensure all gears are in good working order (sand thoroughly and lubricate with the wax provided) before final assembly. Again, wood lubricated with wax is not the best…
