Although when connecting red is red and black is black, the contacts are reversed. Red where black should be and vice versa. Any existing fan will run backwards with these connectors unless you intentionally wire them in reverse (black to positive and red to negative). I won't use labels like that because maybe in a year or two I won't remember when I go to replace something.
