According to N1JSM, CM500 works with IC-7300 adapter and Heil AD-1-iC only works with stereo-to-mono adapter on microphone plug. Mic Gain set at 60%, Comp at 4 - heard myself via WEBSDR. ALC values are nominal. The specifications state that it uses an ELECTRET microphone as required by ICOM. It came with a rechargeable battery to power the mic for other uses, but that's for ICOM radios. I also have a KOSS SB40 headset. I got the SB40 to work with the IC-7300 at 100% mic gain, but it's a mic…

Semi-professional audio and video game monitoring

I use this to monitor/produce music and play Fortnite. I know it's an odd combination, but I wanted to come up with a simple solution: basically good headphones with a mic. I like it better than my Audio-Technica ATH-M20x professional studio headphones. The Audio-Technica are nice and smooth, just how I wanted them, but the bass levels are too low for most realistic reproductions today. These CM 500's have more realistic (but less flat) bass. Much better for my mixing. For Fortnite the mic goes

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Nothing here

Although this is an electret condenser microphone, it is not dynamic as the label on the box would suggest. Its dynamism in terms of frequency response is due to its range. The microphone is extremely sensitive and does not take long to drive the microphone circuitry. The included microphone power supply (battery packs with 2 batteries) is good, but will not work properly in a ham radio application. The Icom 7300 has phantom power on the mic line, and with a compression level of 2 and a mic…

  • Great range

Excellent Yamaha Headset

This is an amazing headset with a built in microphone. I use it both for listening to music and for dictating with Dragon Naturally Speaking. The microphone is precise, so dictation is almost error-free, and the microphone tip is foam-coated to prevent harsh pronunciation. The whole headset is very comfortable. I've had many headsets in my time, but these are by far the most comfortable. The ear pads are soft enough, but not so much that your ears become overheated and uncomfortable. The…

Excellent amateur radio headset for Yaesu FT-857d

For a long time I've been looking for an alternative to the handheld microphone that comes with the Yaesu FT-857D amateur radio station. I use it exclusively for amateur radio satellites like the AO-7, CAS-4A, 4B and XW series, all of which have 70cm uplink and 2m downlink lengths. The sound quality of the included handheld microphone is terrible. It's bass-heavy and smooth at the same time, and no amount of DSP correction in the FT-857D can make up for that. At this point I tried my Heil…

Really good for the price but expect a replacement

TL; DR: I've been using this line of headphones since 2013 as I've seen some pretty good reviews about them. I can confirm that after a long time of use these headphones make a great starter broadcast set and are also very good for gaming and listening to music. However, I have also bought them three times, hoping that the next set will last longer than a year and a half. It may be related to how often I use them, but I've found that reversible cables, where the audio cables are fed in from…
