Spend a little more for a better controller

I wish I'd spent the extra $10-20 on a better controller. The battery gauges don't seem accurate, the load is disconnected if 2 of the 3 red LEDs are still lit. So basically you only know that the battery is either fully charged (3 LEDs on) or almost empty (2 LEDs on). Other than that, it charges my battery efficiently and turns off the load when the battery is too low.

It failed after 4 years and the motor burned out

It was used 4 years outdoors in a plastic device box to control an automatic chicken coop door with solar panel, battery and raspberry pi. adjustable 12V output and battery charging output). Luckily, both the battery and the Raspberry Pi are protected, but the motor burned out. I think 4 years is a good run for a cheap device. But going without high voltage is a bit risky.

I use this controller along with a 30 watt solar panel to keep my engine battery charged while my RV is at summer camp. So far (after a month of use) the panel and controller are working great. I was skeptical about this device given the low price, but to my surprise it works just as well as the more expensive models. It might not last as long, but for the price - who cares? I'll just order another one when this one comes out. I highly recommend it.

This is a great little solar charger for battery maintenance.

This is a great little solar charger for storing the right size battery. I use it to service multiple battery packs with a small solar array. I would advise anyone thinking of using this unit in conjunction with a periodic desulfation circuit to use a diode between the solar charger and the desulfator connected to the battery to prevent the desulfator's return pulse from returning to that unit. I ended up roasting my first one this way (I should have known better).

Great solar controller!

I have two of these controllers. I've been using this for over five years. No questions! These work great and do their job. Those with negative reviews have DEFINITELY not read the instructions or are simply unfamiliar with solar controllers and proper solar connections. YOU MUST CONNECT THE BATTERY before connecting the solar panels to it. Otherwise you will damage the solar panels and the controller. This applies to all solar controllers. cheap or expensive. Not recommended! for solar and wind energy

Electronics burned out at night and the load was only a few hundred milliamperes. This device has been in continuous use for less than 6 months, so I cannot recommend it for serious use. Update: I took it apart and did a little research on the failure mode. The output is always zero. Absolutely nothing seems to be driving the load, regardless of input to the solar terminals or battery. To make matters worse the battery was quite drained as it had dropped to 11.5V when I noticed the failure this

Would not recommend this unit

I purchased this unit as part of a solar powered lighting solution that I added to an indoor outdoor grill station. My setup has a solar panel, a 12v 7 amp lead acid battery powering two 10w led spotlights. Each lamp is switched on separately. The facility generally works well.
