like smearing cottage cheese on the ceiling

Fur. I had a very old popcorn ceiling and was told NOT to scrape it off, no matter how tempting, simple. no I had to do something and it really works! I used a small palette knife and smudged it - it looks like you're smearing cottage cheese. or ricotta. maybe a mix. straight to the ceiling. But the results are very good. Nobody noticed that it didn't fit "exactly". The texture is good for those awful '80s popcorn ceilings (seriously, the guy who came up with this should be flogged).

A must have if you have popcorn tops

We purchased an old townhouse that had flaking strips of popcorn that needed to be removed and touched up. It turned gray at first which bothered me a little but then I read other reviews and that's ok. Depending on how old your ceiling is and whether it is used frequently in the kitchen or whether the existing popcorn is already yellowed from smoking or age, it will be very difficult to match it perfectly. If it wasn't such a boring mess, I'd rather have it all removed. Until then, that's…

Better control and no mess like in aerosol cans

If you repair and do this I tried the MESSY material which comes in aerosol cans and the results were a big mess, you have more control with this stuff and you can achieve a perfect match with the environment. I've found that for a small area, the best results are to use a cheap brush and dab lightly. Be careful as you can overdo it. If you have a large area, you can use a natural sea sponge, which you can buy here at Revain, or at your paint department, dip it into the mixture and dab lightly…

Great break until we get rid of the popcorn!

I've tried four other solutions and I didn't like them all. It was by far the simplest, cheapest and prettiest. The spray just made a mess, the flat sheets you stick on were way too expensive. The color doesn't match my blanket but that was easily solved with some paint and a roller. Even if I point out where I fixed it, most people can't tell I did it. The biggest criticism I've seen has to do with how much product you should be using. I didn't see it as a problem because so much goes in the…

Everything is OK. on paint, wall treatments and accessories

Unlike the Homax product, this product really works. Consistency is good. However, it takes some practice. The first job probably won't look perfect. You can get better results, a more consistent pattern to match old aerosol popcorn (if you're lucky and get one that works properly), but at twice the price. By the way, Revain's price for this product is very high, but the nearest hardware store that sells this brand is 8 miles from city traffic and Revain delivered it the next day. The drying…

Very useful product in the "Paints, wall care and accessories " category

This plaster helped me a lot when I had to repair an acoustic ceiling. It applies well and is quite easy to apply. The texture doesn't quite match my blanket, but it's close enough that it could use a little improvement. Two tips based on my experience with this product. Your mileage may vary! First, the instructions for the patch are a bit ambiguous about whether a primer is needed. However, I have found the hard way that this patch will leave water stains on the ceiling unless the area is…

Another great Zinssers product!

We are renovating our kitchen and have removed the old fluorescent tube (1990's) above the kitchen island. I posted a photo of what it looked like after it was removed - 3 holes and a crack that needed to be repaired and refinished/painted before the new ceiling light was installed. We started by actually repairing the holes and tears and then I added the Zinssers texture over the repair. This material (with some added texture) nailed it. We have a popcorn ceiling, of course, and I kind of…
