Cuts hard ice

I've used this a few times and it works better than anything I've used to cut medium hard ice. However, I haven't scooped multiple batches in a row, so I don't know if it freezes after a few batches. It also remains to be seen how the plastic handle will hold up over time

Pros
  • Good product for the price

You have to buy this

I bought it to replace the one I bought in Sur La Table many years ago that has lost some of its finishes due to my dishwasher - based on this experience I recommend washing your hands as water jets will cause other utensils to scratch the surface of the coated shovel. This scoop has a large weight, which is very helpful when you are not yet scooping soft ice. If you're making your own ice cream, I highly recommend getting a long, narrow plastic storage container so you can pull out the spoon…

Zyliss - Amazing Company, Amazing Products

I've been a Zyliss fan for years but have never bothered to buy their ice cream scoop. We have a shovel from another company that was designed to transfer the heat from your hand to the head of the shovel and should help with shoveling the ice. Not to mention that most of the ice cream in our house is made on the couch with a disposable spoon during shows/movies. However, this spoon was on a recent visit to my mum's house and I was so impressed I have one too. And I'm glad I did. This gives us…

What Swiss appliance brands have become

I have known Zyliss since my childhood as the leading Swiss kitchen brand. Without a doubt the shovel is expertly made, well balanced and strong enough to cut through even the toughest ice, but the one I got was poorly made. grew open to holes 2-3 mm in diameter (slightly less than 1/8""). It is clear that the metal was cast too hot (hence the pitting) and an attempt to grind the holes revealed that the "stainless steel" blade was sold because it was only nickel-plated copper at the time! Since

Also makes scooping easier with arthritis

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis which affects my hands, wrists, elbows and more. Getting ice cream can be extremely difficult and even painful for me. I have tried many brands of shovels. Now I only use Zyllis shovels. They have a comfortable handle that's good for me to hold on to. I don't feel like I have to bend my wrist or elbow to scoop ice cream. It also works great when making very hard ice cream or sorbets. You can scoop a round ice ball instead of scraping it with other balls. Easy to…
