Great for portability but very SLOW!

I have a Retina MacBook Pro and an iMac, both without drives. So I had to buy an external one. While it's great for a MacBook, the cable length is very short for connecting to an iMac. I had to prop it up with a few things so it could reach. But I believe there might be a way to extend the wire a little further to connect a separate, longer wire that could be yours, which was a great decision by Buffalo. I also had a problem connecting to an iMac via Parallels. For some reason the drive…

Pretty cheap but good value

This is exactly what I wanted despite being cheap and fragile. My internal DVD rewriter/player no longer recognizes CDs and DVDs. I got this as a replacement. So simple, just plug in with a USB cable, very easy to install (I still have Windows Vista) and works great from DVD and CD. So far so good and I've had it for a few months now. However, it is important to note that the cables attached to the drive are VERY short (5-8 inches), making positioning difficult. Also, my Windows Media Player…

This journey took a long time.

A long time ago I should have said about this cute little thing. I see I bought it in 2012 which seems like old history now but that was before I really started writing reviews. It probably didn't cross my mind. But here's the thing: I just used it again to burn one DVD and read another. Worked flawlessly as always. In fact, I had no problem reading or writing during those eight years. If it's important to you, I almost always burn them with ImgBurn. His reliability is of great importance…

This is a winner!: CD and DVD drives

Very good machine; That's exactly what I wanted. It's quiet, recognized instantly by my Lenovo laptop, works great with just a single USB cable on my Windows 7 system, it's inexpensive, and I like the fact that the blue light indicates proper power consumption with the USB cable displays is clear and simple. see, but not too bright or obtrusive. A few considerations though: 1. This device is primarily designed for laptops. The short cable is not suitable for desktop computers because the length

Excellent optical drive tech tool

I bought one of these Buffalo portable DVD players as a backup when I suspected I was having trouble with my laptop's internal drive. I buy a lot of stuff from Revain.com and sometimes try different brands. I'm glad I tried the Buffalo brand DVD reader/writer, it worked satisfactorily. The power LED indicators are a good idea, they show whether there is enough power or not. I plug one end of the Y-USB cable into my miniature device. USB port of the computer, and the red light started blinking…

A good compact disc for infrequent use at a bargain price.

I'm not a computer professional. I just needed an inexpensive CD/DVD reader/writer because our new laptop didn't have an internal floppy drive. So far this little gem has worked flawlessly. I've used it to install software on a laptop, burn CDs, and burn regular and dual layer DVDs. I haven't tried playing the Blu-ray, but everything I've done with it has worked on three different DVD players. I've also used it to rip CDs but have to complain about the speed. I used it to rip CDs and it took…

Inexpensive option with software, works with PC and Mac

Budget option, USB powered and own burning software. This DVD burner also works with the latest Windows and Mac operating systems. The worst I can say about it is that it's USB 2.0 and is noticeably slow at only 8x. This drive couldn't be easier to install. Unpack it, plug it into an available USB port on your PC or Mac and it should automatically be detected and the generic drivers installed. Then insert the supplied CD into the drive (open using the built-in button on the front of the drive).

Worked once, cable too short

Update (February 2014): The drive has been lying unused on my desk since my first check. Today I installed another program with this external drive and it worked fine. Then the rig "got stuck" at a certain point and the drive made a kind of clicking noise. When I took the drive out, it had streaks on the data side about 1/4 inch from the outside edge. Luckily I was able to get my internal drive working for this particular setup and whatever those strips were. It doesn't affect it. As others…

Excellent external DVD drive for playing/burning CDs and DVDs

I purchased this drive from Revain through Buffalo Technology to use on my Mac mini (the internal DVD drive has failed). about two months and has recorded about 50 CDs and about 60 DVDs so far. I've also played several CDs on it and watched several DVDs. It only works with one USB power cable on both my 2009 Mac mini (model 3.1) and 2008 13" MacBook (model 4.1). The other USB cable runs neatly under the DVD drive and is invisible. The drive has a low profile and produces minimal noise. An LED…

Good drive does what it's supposed to

I just bought this drive to use with a new HP Pavilion X360 laptop. I connected the drive to my laptop, which recognized the device immediately. I was reading DVD files on my laptop. Then I tried to write to a blank disk. I could not find the "Burn" function in the menu window of the displayed file folder. I chose "Manage" and then "Extract". The system then wrote the files to disk and ejected them. A little different but it worked so I won't complain. Based on what has been demonstrated for…
