We have a fairly large cat weighing 16 pounds. He's black russian blue (we think). He really enjoys going on adventures with us - hiking, kayaking, biking etc. Haven't taken him on a full hike yet but so far so good. He actually seemed to be enjoying it a lot more than trying to keep it in his backpack. It barely fits as its size is close to the limit, but it can still change position, which worried us. The design seems pretty good, but only time will tell. The fit seems pretty good and there is enough room in the straps for a good sized person. If it fails within the first 3 months I will update this post, everything else works fine.
