I built a new chicken coop next to the coop to keep my chickens. I'm convinced it's a defense against the South Texas predators. I used 1/2 inch hardware webbing here as the outer layer around the perimeter of the first 3 feet of the bottom of the barrel. It's strong enough to hold raccoons and the squares are small enough to stop all but the tiniest snakes from crawling through. In addition, these chickens get along well with the little ones who come by. I could describe the rest of the running and working together, but you just have to trust me, this is predator protection for all the critters we have here in South Texas. I use different sizes of fabric in the outbuildings throughout the ranch to keep critters out.
