They sent the pump in retail packaging which wasn't very good. The box literally fell into my hands because the pump was in a good "air cushion" and was in perfect working order. The latest XJ jeeps don't have an external fuel filter, it's built into the check valve which is on top of the pump (pictured) which has failed on mine. During operation the pressure was good, but as soon as the engine was stopped it dropped to 0. This makes it spin much longer at start after idling for a while because the pump has to pressurize the whole system (from tank to injector) before the injectors can work. So rather than just installing an in-line check valve (a cheap solution) it was decided to replace the 20 year old pump, check valve and filter with this one product. The tank needs to be emptied, not the best option but just make sure it's almost empty if you don't want it falling on your head or taking a gas bath. It's good that we replaced the old pump, it did its job well, it's time to send it to the landfill. The jeep has been running great for a few months now, starts almost immediately and gives me the confidence you want when driving off-road.
