I use about half a sachet per 20g tank. I was concerned that the walnut shell would be too rough and hurt my leopard gecko's stomach, but the kernels are not sharp and are actually quite soft. My leopard gecko loves laying in this shit. He used to mostly sleep in his den when he was in the aspen, but since I've been using this thing he's been sleeping outside more often than in a den. He likes to get in there too. A complete mess ensues. As with any loose substrate, I don't feed it directly to avoid snagging. I put his worms and roaches in a shallow dish and mostly hand feed him the crickets. Sometimes he gets something in his mouth but I watch him and he poops right away. Make sure your lizard gets adequate water and warmth, otherwise it may even suffer from too many mealworms. Do not plant unhealthy or young lizards in loose substrate. My other leopard gecko, which has poor vision and always misses at least twice before it gets a worm in its mouth, lies on the reptile carpet, otherwise it would eat more substrate than its actual food. I think it's much better than aspen because the grains are much smaller and can't damage their insides if swallowed. The only problem I have is my leopard gecko kicks it in its water bowl and it turns red. Otherwise this substrate is excellent.
