Review on Optimized Hauppauge PVR-150 PCI TV Tuner for WinTV by Justin Malkowski

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Usually does what it's supposed to. But still stuck in the bunny ear era

I've had a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 for just under 4 months now. While it works more or less as advertised, it's a bit clunky software wise. It scans the antenna channels, not the attached cable box, the included channel management software doesn't work there. I've encountered issues where it goes into "zoom" mode, which I can't always let go of. The remote control and my cable box don't always get along, at best there are long delays. Now I have the latest updates and I used to have BeyondTV which is much better. However, problems remain that neither side can pinpoint. I will not reinstall again! Since this was a tube TV replacement with UHF and VHF knobs (and still works) and Comcast still can't give me a decent picture, I'm making these notes. FYI I'm running this on a Core2Duo XP computer and I usually use an additional 19" square monitor as a dual head nVidia 8600GT TV screen. NOT MCE. I could buy another card but none of the newer ones seem to want to do wired HD. Either antenna or trunk! I don't know what I'll do if I ever get FiOs. GREEN!

Pros
  • Looks nice
Cons
  • Dull hardware
