We have had cloth bags that cannot be washed and are about the same size. The ones we already had don't have side handles either. I like these new bags more than the ones I already had. Erasable vinyl is better than regular cloth on the ones I've had that I couldn't clean once they got dirty. These bags held quite a bit of my groceries but were compact enough not to be too heavy when full. In fact, my husband was able to comfortably carry all three bags by the straps/handles in one hand while using the other hand to open our door. They pack very compactly into our car when not in use and will definitely become my favorite bags when I go shopping. I'm sure they will come in handy in the summer for our weekend trips to visit our family abroad and especially for packing for the beach. These are great bags and I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for sturdy, well made bags that are a good size to hold enough items so they are not too heavy and also hold a lot of stuff.
