I find this mat a good addition to my workplace. I haven't used it for cutting much, but the cuts I've made haven't left any significant surface scars. In some cases a visible line remains, but it remains relatively smooth. I have included pictures of both sides of the rug in this review to show what it looks like. and I believe the marks for measurement are accurate. The carpet is hard - it doesn't roll up like some others I've seen and I'm fine with that. Mine had a slight kink that I was hoping would straighten out under its own weight, but I ended up bending and manipulating it a bit to make it almost flat. I think that might be because it was sent in a flat box with another bulky/heavy item. So overall I give it a solid 5 stars as it gets the job done at a reasonable price for its size!
