The clock is really bright so it's great that it turns itself off after a few seconds. You can then "wake it up" by making a sound (clap, by tapping on the bedside table) or by tapping the top of the clock. The problem is when I turn over in the middle of the night I want to check the time and not start applauding because it would wake my husband up. Since my phone charges from the watch, I can't touch it to wake it up. So I just grab my phone to check the time, defeating my whole purpose of having a clock by my bed. There were several times when the clock would "wake up" and shine brightly in my face when I was trying to sleep, but there was no sound to wake me up. I can give it one more night before returning it, but most likely I will.
