Review on Enhanced Dowel Quick Doweling Jig by wolfcraft 4641404 by Giles Lacoste

Smart but fragile

Good idea but poorly executed. Housing made of soft, fragile plastic. It fell off my workbench on the first job and when it hit the ground one of the four pins/pins broke off flush with the body. These pins are an integral part of the dowel centering system at the end of the board, so I no longer need ¼" dowels! Thing is, it takes some brute force to get some accuracy, but if it breaks that easily, how much Can I use brute force and how many times before it just falls apart? Also, the drill bit goes through one of three metal inserts. On my unit, these inserts appear to be aluminum. Since the drill bit is hardened steel, it's not surprising that every time when you drill a dowel hole aluminum shavings get mixed with sawdust the drill bit wobbles and wobbles next time I use this I'll have to use a different size dowel/insert/drill bit but certainly not ¼" (see above) It's a shame Better/stronger plastic and hardened steel inserts and this unit costs twice as much Whatever the case I don't think it's worth the money it's asking in.

Pros
  • Sturdy design
Cons
  • Nothing here
