Review on ๐Ÿ’ง CamelBak 90856 Mil Spec Antidote Accessory Reservoir Review: 70 oz/2.0L Capacity for Efficient Hydration by Bob Taylor

Very good camelbak bladder, strong construction, holds a lot of water

Excellent camelbak bladder. Much stronger plastic and construction than non-Mil cameras. 70 ounces hold quite a bit of water. It fits perfectly in my small Dakine backpack and takes up the entire backpack. It does the job. First I bought 50 ounces. a bladder that I returned because it had a hole; 50 ounces seemed very small back then, but that would have been enough for me. The insulated tubing is long enough to run across the body, even when connected to the hydration reservoir and routed through a backpack. Thanks to the insulated sleeve, the tube can be easily put back into the backpack. When full it adds too much weight to me so I fill it about 1/2 full and it still holds enough water to last all day on the slopes. It is disassembled into three parts: a cylinder, a hose and a mouthpiece. This is very useful when cleaning and drying individual parts. HOWEVER, the chamber has seams in two places, with the seams running almost the entire height of the chamber (from just below the fill hole to the bottom of the chamber) so it's not just one big bag containing water. This is great for strength but not so good for drying out. As the bladder dries up, the various "compartments" within the bladder collapse and do not remain open as there is not much space between the compartments/sutures. This causes mold to grow quickly and it is almost impossible to put your hands/fingers in the compartments to dry them quickly. You can't put your hand in the filling hole to dry it, but it's nice, big, and very functional for its intended purpose - filling with water. So when I dry my bladder, I usually put some paper towels or real insulated tubing inside the bladder and that keeps the bladder and its compartments open. After several hours snowboarding in sub-zero temperatures in the Rocky Mountains, the tube is still frozen, which is to be expected. If kept in good condition, it will last a long time.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
