It was a very nice project that my little sister and I did. We enjoyed watching it. I ordered a kit and then there is a code to redeem the tracks. It took me about 7 days to receive the tracks after ordering. You get 5 butterflies with the set. They offer you another 5 for a fee of around $15.00. We did this because you get 5 but you may not pass all 5. Of the 10 we received, 6 survived to be released. When the caterpillars arrived, it took them another 10 days to transform into a cocoon. During this time we just watched. We didn't feed her or open the container. We put them in the garden around the 10th day. At this point I have placed them outside on my balcony. I brought them at night to avoid the cold. We did it in the fall but summer or late spring would be ideal. We fed them sliced bananas. You can make a simple syrup for them but a friend made that and had ants. They don't need water and can drown if you put water in the garden. I wanted to keep them somewhere bright and colorful while they shed their tough cocoons. It took about 7 more days for the butterflies to appear. Be prepared to explain why some people are successful and others are not. We had one that, despite our best efforts, failed to get its wings to spread the cocoon stage. This went on for several days before finally surviving. Butterflies are very fragile. We never touched them or played with them, that's not what they were made for.
